New Freeride Map Vals – Water in its most beautiful nature
In Vals, water is an omnipresent topic. After a day spent shredding fresh pow between Frunthorn and Faltschonhorn, the Therme Vals invites you to refresh in liquid snow. And the brand new Freeride Map Vals invites you to discover the qualities of this alpine gem off the beaten tracks. Alongside each printed versions, all 46 map pages can also be used on a smartphone.

The Freeride Map is fantastic because it's marked according to different levels of ability. It's great the way the areas of wild life protection and danger zones with rockfalls are highlighted to warn freeriders and off-piste skiers. Of course you can't rely entirely on the freeride map - you have to check the local snow and avalanche conditions.
The Freeride Map is a perfect tool for orientation. The areas marked show the best runs and make map reading easy. I always use the FRMs to explain the territory to my guests and to teach them how to orient themselves because that's a fundamental factor in reducing risk.
The Maps clearly show the most important information at a glace - inclines, prohibited/restricted/no-go areas etc. And even experts will be happy with the standard map as it contains the details of a precise topographic map with the additional advantage of being water resistant.
The Freeride Map is a valuable planning tool that gives me a really good overview of where I can ski off piste and where I can’t, and this is really important in unfamiliar terrain. The routes are even marked in colour. I can plan my tours with the Freeride Map and it helps me keep my bearings. It is also neat to carry and water resistant. However the Freeride Map doesn’t guarantee that I can use the marked routes in all snow and weather conditions. I also have to check the local avalanche conditions and figure out if I can go on a particular slope on a particular day or not. If I’m unsure, then I’m better off hiring a local mountain guide.
Fresh powder, blue skies, but unfamiliar terrain. New territory can spook you, if you don’t know where you’re heading. Perfect conditions mean nothing if you can’t make the most of them. So where are all the lines? This is where the Freeride Map comes in. The maps give me a quick and accurate overview of an area. I know where I can ride and where not. Does a run end at a steep drop or a cirque or even down in a valley which I’ll have difficulty finding a way out of? Difficulty levels are also apparent at a glance. This is why Freeride Maps are a permanent part of my safety equipment.
